Skin and Wound Care
A practical based day to explore the challenges and enable the health care practitioner to understand the elements of good skin care, assessment of wounds, barriers to wound healing, and selecting appropriate treatments in order to maximise outcomes.
This session is aimed at practice nurses. However, HCAs can also attend if they have some experience of wound care and have a mentor within their practice to support them.
Content
- Wound care and challenges in Primary Care
- Anatomy & physiology of the skin
- Care of skin and recognition of common skin conditions including emollients and topical steroids
- Differing types of wound
- Wound assessment – identifying red flags and knowing when to refer
- Wound healing process and barriers to healing
- Basic principles of infection control and asepsis
- Dressing selection workshop
- Dressing techniques
- Applying & removing dressings
This course will provide a certificate of attendance and copies of the formal presentation for reference
