  • What is an apprenticeship?

    An apprenticeship is a paid job which gives the learner (an apprentice) practical work experience and the opportunity to train in a particular occupation, whilst gaining valuable skills and qualifications to enable them to become proficient in their chosen occupation.

  • What apprenticeships are available?

    Below is a list of the apprenticeships that are commonly offered in Primary Care:


  • Advanced Clinical Practitioners are experienced clinicians with expertise in their scope of practice, managing defined episodes of clinical care independently.

    The foundation of the programme is the four pillars of advanced clinical practice:

    1. Clinical Practice
    2. Leadership and Management
    3. Education
    4. Research

    Entry Requirements

    The normal entry requirements are as follows, although these may vary:

    • A Bachelors Honours degree with 2:2 in any subject
    • A minimum of three years’ post qualifying experience working as a qualified nurse, midwife, registered non-medical healthcare professional or allied health professional
    • Currently working in clinical practice for a minimum of 20 hours per week, where you are supported and able to undertake assessing and examining skills.

  • An assistant accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation.

    The Senior Leader (Healthcare) Degree Apprenticeship is underpinned by the MSc in Healthcare Leadership and Management which has been specifically developed for leaders committed to patient-centred systems of care and who aspire to become compassionate and inclusive leaders confident in creating organisations and great at working in partnership.

    Entry Requirements

    The normal entry requirements are as follows, although these may vary:

    • At least a 2:2 degree and relevant public health work experience.

  • The Systems Thinking Degree Apprenticeship is suitable for mid to senior level public sector service staff engaged with addressing complex and cross-disciplinary challenges.  

    It offers these current and future leaders training in systems thinking methodologies, leadership and ethics, evidence-based practice, stakeholder analysis and ultimately the skills and experiences for delivering services under complexity, risk and uncertainty.

  • Physician associates are healthcare professionals who work alongside registered doctors and provide medical care as an integral part of a wider healthcare team. They are dependent practitioners, which means that they must work with a dedicated medical supervisor, but are able to work autonomously with appropriate support.

  • The Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RNDA) will give you a chance to study for a qualification that will enable you to become a registered nurse.
