LSCB Supporting Young People Who Self-Harm

The training will give a comprehensive understanding of self-harm and suicide for professionals working with young people and their families. IT is a practical course with guidance for workers on how to react when you know, or suspect, the young person is harming themselves or expressing suicidal thoughts. Resources aimed at young people to help them reduce self-harm will be recommended. There will be a brief outline of other difficulties such as anxiety and depression which can have an impact on a young person’s mental health. Throughout the day there will be opportunities for discussion and exercises.
 

Please note: This course is not suitable for those already working as Mental Health Practitioners or CAMHS workers.

Description

  • Develop knowledge of some common and less-common mental health conditions
  • Identifying signs of self-harm
  • Responding when self-harm or suicidal thoughts are identified
  • Signposting to supporting resources
