Frailty – What is it and why diagnose it?

Aimed at GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners, this education session will be delivered by a Consultant Geriatrician, an Extensivist GP, Weymouth Elderly Care Service and a Physiotherapist with a special interest in frailty and research.

The following areas will be explored:

The science of frailty:

  • What is frailty and what are the theories about how it develops?
  • What tools are available to diagnose frailty and which one should we use?
  • What does an EFI score indicate?

 

What is the current advice for treatment:

  • Are we just shepherding the decline?
  • Can frailty be reversed?
  • The role of CRT, MUCS and the hub and how patients benefit
  • If decline is inevitable – the benefits of Advance Care Planning

 

This will be an interactive session with breakout groups covering the comprehensive geriatric assessment, the Dorset Care Plan and therapy intervention.
