Leg Ulcer Assessment, Dopplers and Compression Bandaging

If an HCA attends, he/she must already working in this area within their practice and must have a named mentor
It will provide learning about the practical elements and importance of careful assessment and recognition of signs and symptoms followed by a clinical skills session to incorporate practical leg assessment, undertaking a Doppler test, interpreting it and applying compression safely.
The clinician will gain evidence-based knowledge, skills and confidence they will need for safe and effective practice when caring for patients with leg ulceration, or those at risk
Course Content
- Principles and core elements of leg assessment and why we need to undertake this
- How to manage this in the primary care arena
- Practical demonstration of leg assessment/ Doppler test and skills workshop with calculation and impact of the ABPI
- How to recognise and who to refer to if needed
- Understanding the importance of compression in the prevention and the treatment of venous/ mixed ulceration and chronic oedema with practical skills workshop
This course will provide a certificate of attendance and copies of the formal presentation for reference
Delegates need to bring a ‘Doppler kit’ to the day including B/P cuff, ultrasound gel, & head phones for the practical sessions
