Introduction to Contraception and Sexual Health

This introductory day is suitable for practice nurses who are new to contraception and sexual health care
Aim
The course aims to give you the basic knowledge required to discuss the range of available contraceptive methods and carry out asymptomatic sexual health screening.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Consider diversity, sexuality, attitudes and values in demonstrating a non-judgemental service
- Gain confidence in assessing patients who require contraception and sexual health care
- Describe the normal function of the male and female reproductive tract
- Discuss contraceptive methods, their mode of action, contra-indications, risks and benefits.
- Explain the best practice standards for managing emergency contraception requests
- List the most common sexually transmitted infections
- Describe how to perform and asymptomatic sexual health screen.
- Explain the principle of partner notification
PARKING
Please do not park in the surgery car park but in neighbouring roads where there are no parking restrictions. You could also park in the long stay car park in the Civic Centre Car Park Temple Street BS31 1EL or the car park in Bath Hill East BS31. Both are within a 10 minute walk of the surgery
