Safeguarding Adults Level 3 Training (9:30am – 12:30pm)
Ali Robins will lead this section which complies with Adult Safeguarding Training Level 3. This interactive workshop for primary care teams, will look at the guidance, and discuss several challenging safeguarding dilemmas, to see how we can meet our statutory duties in practice.
Course aims and objectives
- Provide an understanding of the legislation regarding safeguarding adults and what it means to us in practice
- Provide an awareness of individual and professional responsibilities to support vulnerable adults in a way that lets them make their own choices about their lives
- Prevent harm and reduce the risk of neglect or abuse to adults living with care and support needs
- Raise awareness so that health and social care staff and professionals understand ways to identifying, responding and preventing abuse and neglect with specific regard to local multi agency processes and procedures.
- Provide essential safeguarding vulnerable adults resources in a meaningful way which can be utilised in everyday practice

- How to support vulnerable people
- How to respond to safeguarding enquiries and alerts
- Understanding the Mental Capacity Act and its Code of Practice, the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Care Act 2014, along with their impact on safeguarding adults and managing all related functions as appropriate.
- How to participate in an adult protection investigation / review
- How to provide strong leadership to make safeguarding integral to care
- How to use systems & standards to prevent and respond to neglect and abuse
Safeguarding Children – (1:15pm – 4:15pm)
Wendy Thorogood will lead this session, which complies with Children’s Safeguarding Training Level 3. Wendy works locally and nationally and has worked with children for more than twenty-five years. Her session will cover, what to do if you have concerns about a child’s welfare, working as part of a multi-agency team, roles, responsibilities and statutory requirements, case discussions and exploring professional dilemmas. This session is designed for nurses and GP’s who need to understand the roles and responsibilities for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
