This course is designed to increase delegates’ knowledge of medical terminology in certain medical specialties in order to develop their own competence and confidence and maximise the effectiveness of patient care. It is ideal for staff who have attended the ‘Introduction to Medical Terminology’ course or who already have a familiarity with medical terms gained through experience and who wish to expand their knowledge further
Objectives
The objectives of the course are to enable delegates to be able to:
- consolidate their knowledge of medical terminology;
- state the meaning of medical prefixes and suffixes at an advanced level;
- identify root words and basic anatomy of:
- digestive system
- dermatology
- nervous system
- skeletal system

Course Overview
- Introduction Revision of suffixes
- Session 1 Advanced terminology of digestive system/conditions of digestive system
- Session 2 Advanced ‘suffixes’ and ‘prefixes’
- Session 3 Advanced dermatological terminology including skin cancer & burns
- Session 4 Advanced terminology of nervous system
- Session 5 Advanced terminology of skeletal system
