  • In January 2017, we launched Dorset Locum Chambers, a free system designed for advertising and booking Locum GP work.

    In addition to advertising and booking work our chambers offers additional support with statutory and mandatory training, administration of important paperwork such as tax and pension forms and information about CPD and training events for Locum GPs.

    The Primary Care Workforce Centre is funding the cost of accessing the Dorset HealthCare bank administration system for practices in Dorset.

    The Bank Staff

    • Receptionists, administrators, medical secretaries
    • They will have been fully interviewed and had all their recruitment checks completed
    • They will have completed all their statutory and mandatory training
    • We are also working to ensure they will be fully trained in using system 1

    Roles Available

    Receptionist £11.37 p/hour
    Administrator £12.68 p/hour
    Medical Secretary £14.81 p/hour

  • MSK Practitioner Bank


    Are you interested in exploring new roles within your practice to address your increasing demands?

    With over 30% of GP consultations relating to musculoskeletal conditions; an MSK Practitioner role might be the right option for your practice.

    The benefits of an MSK practitioner to your practice include:-

    • Hourly costs at a lower rate than GP salary
    • 15-40% fewer referrals made to secondary care
    • 99% conversion rate to operative intervention
    • 98% of red flags are accurately assessed by MSK practitioners
    • Reduction in unrequired investigations


    In Dorset, with four large providers of Physiotherapy services (three Hospital Trusts and Dorset HealthCare) and numerous independent providers it can be confusing as to where to turn for your MSK practitioner. Taking on an MSK practitioner supported by a larger team can provide the governance that you seek.

    MSK Practitioners may have differing skill sets and therefore we will work with you dependent on your needs. For example you may require a practitioners who

    • Is able to undertake peripheral steroid injections
    • Is a non-medical prescriber
    • Can refer for a full set of diagnostics investigations, including MRI, where appropriate
    • Is able to ‘direct list’ for certain orthopaedic conditions, where appropriate
    • has a special interest areas such as back/pain management

    NHS providers in Dorset will offer you a practitioner based on your service needs. Hourly rates may differ based on the full extent of clinicians skills, however it might be helpful to advise that the NHS Trusts in Dorset have agreed to the same pricing structure such that you should not feel the need to ‘shop around’ for a better deal

    Price Range of between £42-£54 per hour

    In all cases, you will be provided with an experienced advanced practice physiotherapist who has at least five years musculoskeletal experience, who is an autonomous practitioner who can think on their feet.

  • Apprenticeships

    Apprenticeships offer an exciting opportunity to help employers recruit and develop new staff and support the development and progression of existing staff.

    Since the introduction of the new Apprenticeship Levy in April 2017, apprenticeships have been undergoing an overhaul and we are now seeing qualifications such as the Registered Nurse Degree being converted into apprenticeships. Smaller employers (those who pay less than £3 million per annum in staff salaries) will be able to use Government funding to fund up to 90% of the costs of these apprenticeships and larger employers will be able to use their Apprenticeship Levy funds.
