One in two people will have a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. \nImprovements in treatment mean that people are living longer after their diagnosis. SUMMARY:GP Return to Work course
DESCRIPTION:Are you a GP due to return\, or have recently returned\, to clinical work after a prolonged period of absence (e.g. maternity leave or ill health)? Would you like to increase your clinical confidence\, have updates on hot CPD topics\, discuss appraisal requirements and meet others in a similar position?\nThis one day course\, run by the Primary Care Training Hub\, will support GPs to return to work after a period of prolonged absence (e.g. maternity leave or ill health) and help build confidence. It offers returners the opportunity to practice telephone and online consulting skills in a simulated learning environment\, take part in CPD updates on hot clinical topics\, discuss appraisal requirements with an appraiser and spend time with GPs in a similar situation\, building a network for peer support. \nThis session will provide up to 3 simulated patient consultations\, an hour of CPD updates\, a session on appraisal and the chance to build relationships with other GPs in Dorset who are in a similar position. Loss and bereavement awareness is delivered virtually over 2.5 hours by experienced Cruse trainers. The course aims to help you to respond to\, and support bereaved people but also considers the impact on yourself and helps you to manage your own and your colleagues wellbeing. \nSome Dorset primary care business support and reception staff recently road tested this training and said: \n• “It definitely opened my eyes and I think it allows staff to have the confidence to speak to patients that have experience bereavement.” \n• “It also helped them to recognise when they\, themselves may have been affected by a story and where\, when and how to get help for this. Grab a cuppa and zoom in with green woodsman Mark Codling. Explaining the best woods to carve and how to prepare them\, Mark takes us through the steps of how to start carving green wood into a spoon and other utensils. As Mark will tell us\, carving wood is a great way to focus the mind and can be very meditative and calming.
