DESCRIPTION:Speakers\nMr Roger Hoke \n9.15-9.30am coffee & registration                   9.30am – 4pm       training day \nThis one day course is for Health Care Assistants or nurses new to General Practice who will be undertaking phlebotomy within their role. It covers both theoretical and practical aspects including demonstration and practice on training arms and pads. \nThis course will provide a certificate of attendance\, competency work book for completion with observed practice and mentorship in practice and phlebotomy guidelines. \nLearning Outcomes\nBy the end of the session all attendees should be able to: \n\nObtain a basic venous blood sample under appropriate supervision.\nPerform phlebotomy to a National Occupational Standard – NPSA  SPN 14 – Obtaining a Venous Blood Sample.\nDemonstrate safe practice reducing the potential for sample errors and needle stick injury.\n\nCourse Content\n\nHealth & Safety / current legislation\nEquipment  including :Vacuum systems / winged collection sets / blood sample tubes / tourniquets\nOrder of Draw when obtaining samples\nPre-analytical errors\nTechnique including:Locating difficult veins / problem solving\nStorage and Transportation of samples\nBlood Cultures & Aseptic Technique\n\nResources for all delegates\nRoger Hoke (Trainer) has published a new individual “working portfolio” to be distributed to all the delegates attending the course alongside the fantastic text book he has written. \nThis additional resource allows the delegate to have a documented record of their competencies and training courses and evidence of learning through sign of competencies / quality assurance which are linked to the national framework. \nThe Portfolios have been kite marked by NAPP (National Association of Phlebotomy Physicians ) \nMain contact\nName: Louise Greenwood \nEmail: louise.greenwood@wessexlmcs.org.uk \nPhone: 023 8025 3874 \nIf you have any communication or mobility needs that the event organisers need to be aware of please contact them  in advance of the course to let them know.
