Wound Care Half-day Update

An interactive session to explore, update skills and increase knowledge in managing wounds and why wounds don’t heal in Primary Care.
The session will also include a workshop to explore correct dressing selection and using the local wound formulary
This session is aimed at practice nurses. However, HCAs can also attend if they are already experienced in this area of their work
Content:
- To understand the main elements of describing/assessing wounds accurately in a standardised way
- To explore the major barriers to wound healing within the wound bed eg. Infection, Biofilm, excessive exudate
- To consider skin care in relation to wounds
- To increase awareness of the local formulary and the products included
- To recognise the main grouping of dressings and indications for which types of dressings may be suitable for types of wounds
- Opportunity to discuss the issues of wound care in the GP practice
