Supporting families facing bereavement
10 October 2017 @ 9:15 am - 4:00 pm
The study day would be suitable for anyone involved in supporting children, young people and their families who are facing bereavement (school pastoral teams, teachers, ELSA’s, SENCO’s, chaplaincy teams, volunteers and health and social care staff).
The one day experiential workshop will include theory on bereavement and loss, child development and understanding, communicating bad news, and practical ways of exploring the issues for families and ways of supporting them.
Due to the nature of the study day the cohort size is 12 maximum.
The course is delivered by Jo Sharkey, Weldmar’s Children Support Worker and Caroline Sweetland, the Lead Education Facilitator.
At the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- Describe the possible level of understanding of a bereaved child according to their developmental age
- Understand the importance of honest communication and involving the child
- Share a practical idea with colleagues for use when working with bereaved children
- State where other resources are available to support the professionals involved in supporting the child
We are really pleased be able to offer this popular course free at point of access due to the generous funding from The Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust.
