Child & Adult Level 3 Safeguarding Update Training

10 May 2021 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Jonathan McKinney will lead this interactive training event which will examine the increasingly complex challenges faced by Primary Care Practitioners in safeguarding children and adults. Jonathan retired from Dorset Police in 2019 after a 29 year career mostly specialising as a detective investigating serious crimes against children and vulnerable adults and all aspects of safeguarding. He qualified as a trainer in 2004 and went on to combine investigation with training multi-agency audiences safeguarding awareness and practice.
What will the event cover? The world of safeguarding is an ever expanding arena in which adults and children can become vulnerable to an increasing number of risks. These include County Lines, Cuckooing, Child Criminal Exploitation, FGM and other areas of Honour Based Abuse, Radicalisation, Controlling and Coercive Behaviour, Financial Abuse and Social Media. This training workshop will ensure participants understand Contextualised Safeguarding and new areas of risk, how to identify when children and adults may have become vulnerable to them and how to respond. Aims for the day:

  • For participants to understand what safeguarding threats exist for adults and children and what factors can make them more vulnerable
  • To identify the potential signs and symptoms of different types of abuse
  • To have an overview of relevant legislation and practitioners’ statutory obligations
  • How to respond to safeguarding alerts and participate in enquiries while continuing to try and apply the wishes of the victim
  • To employ practice which may help to prevent abuse and make it easier for victims to disclose
