About

Delivered by consultants and GPs, this session will look at the Dorset Cancer Partnership and Plan and update you on the latest guidance for cancer referrals and treatment. You will hear from four specialities including respiratory, colorectal, urology and oncology as well as being briefed on a new service for referring patients with a cancer of an unknown primary.

This session has been designed to help support GPs and Nurse Practitioners to make appropriate referrals and investigations for patients with a suspected cancer. It is also an opportunity for small group updates on new cancer guidance and to discuss cases with secondary care consultants.

In addition, Public Health Wessex will be providing an update on upcoming changes to the national cancer screening programme and how to optimise the number of patients taking up screening.

What’s on offer?

The session will commence with an introductory overview of Cancer in Primary Care to include an introduction to Dorset Cancer Partnership, an overview of referrals, challenges in Primary Care and the Macmillan Toolkit for analysing cancer emergency presentations. This will be followed by interactive small group breakout sessions for ‘speed updating’ by speciality consultants. To close the training session, Public Health Wessex and Livewell Dorset will provide a screening update and take a look at Cancer Prevention at Scale.

This training is supported by Cancer Research UK and Macmillan and resources will be available for both practices and patients.
