2-day Foundation in Diabetes Course for General Practice Nurses

This course is provided by J2S training on behalf of Wessex LMCs in support of on-going development for Practice Nurses.
The course is ideal for Practice Nurses who are widening their skills to be able to undertake an annual review for patients with diabetes. The training programme consists of two highly interactive and enjoyable training days facilitated by specialist nurses in diabetes care.
The GPN will be provided with a working portfolio that will provide substantial evidence of competency achievement and skills in Diabetes to be signed off and agreed by your employer and Practice Nurse Mentor. This is a foundation course that will enable nurses to competently complete an annual review and have the tools to build on their skills up to a level of proficiency in diabetes.
Programme: Day One
- Clinical Governance & accountability
- What is diabetes?
- Type I and Type II
- The annual review in General Practice
- To include awareness of Medication
- Medication continued
- Life style workshop
- Fats/weight loss/the sugar game
- Review of competencies
Programme: Day Two
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Practical session – look at meters and competency framework
- Hypoglycaemia workshop
- DVLA guidelines
- Sick day rules / CASE STUDIES
- Diabetic foot checks
- Practical session and competency framework
- Quiz
